Solar Street Lamps Paua Phase 2
Paua is still in a post-conflict context, with high insecurity, especially during night-time, where groups of armed youths occasionally burst into town from surrounding settlements. Since Paua has a very limited electric grid most commercial activity ceases soon after nightfall, affecting the economic and social life of Paua citizens. Phase 1 project funded the installation of 50 solar street lamps in Paua Town with great positive impact. Phase 2 will expand coverage with 80 more lamps.

Context
Paua is still in a post-conflict context, with high insecurity, especially during night-time, where groups of armed youths occasionally burst into town from surrounding settlements. Since Paua has a very limited electric grid and only a couple of hours daily of supply, most commercial activity ceases soon after nightfall, affecting the economic and social life of Paua citizens.
Needs and problem statement
Given the immediate positive impact of the Paua initial phase of installation of 50 solar-powered street lamps in central Paua Town, a Second Phase of the project coverin the installation of another 80 street lamps, further along the three main avenues of the town has been developed and funding is being requested.
Overall objective
Expand the solar-powered street lamp coverage of the main Paua Town roads by adding 80 additional streets lamps in Phase 2 to complement the 50 installed in Phase 1.
Monitoring and evaluation approach
Each street lamp installation team sends records daily reports, entering each advance on the overall target in the monitoring dashboard and uploading the related geo-referenced picture or video record of the newly installed lamp(s)
Who benefits
Street vendors and shop owners, as well as the general population of Paua will benefit both economically and in terms of heightened security and welfare with the extension of coverage of solar-powered street lamps along the three main avenues of the town.
Selection criteria
The expansion focuses on all 3 of the main roads of Paua Town, expanding the Phase 1 coverage, which has demonstrated positive results already. This extension will benefit an estimated 12,000 additional Paua residents.
